The Gandhi of Jo’burg

Gandhigiri may have once again become a global rage, but there are many across the globe who've lived by the Mahatma's principles for as long as they can remember. One of them being former South African President Nelson Mandela. Often referred to as the Gandhi of South Africa, Mandela is now looking forward to seeing a film based on his "favourite hero".
The leader, who of late has cut down on his public appearances, will make an exception primarily for a special screening of Anil Kapoor's Gandhi My Father that will be held in Johannesburg on July 29. South Africa's President Thabo Mbeki will accompany Mandela to this screening where a lot of other government dignitaries are also expected to be present.
Anil, who's turned producer with this film, had requested Mandela to see the film when he had met him in Johannesburg during the making of Gandhi My Father . Anil, who was overjoyed on meeting Mandela, reveals, "Meeting Mandela was a dream come true for me." Talking about the world leader being present at the screening, Anil says, "It is an absolute honour that Nelson Mandela will be seeing my film. He is perhaps the biggest world leader that we have and also someone who comes closest to Gandhi. This will be our world premiere at Johannesburg and it will be on a big scale." ….read more
