Every second month, he insists he'll do nothing, be with family, get far away from the madding crowd. There are a few stolen days of rest 'n' relaxation… but once he's back on showtown minute, he's multitasking.
What's your response to winning the MTV Award for the style icon of the year?
I don't feel I'm stylish. I only wear black Armani suits for formal occasions, Armani because the brand's available in stores all over the world. I'm quite stylish in my films but that's thanks to Karan Johar and now Aki Narula in Don. I'm told I've a stylish walk and attitude. I know many designers – Ritu Beri, Rohit Bal, Raghavendra Rathore, Manish Malhotra, Surily Goel but I don't know much about their work. I don't follow fashion and trends. I am embarrassed to attend fashion shows.
Are you satisfied with the final shape of Don?
I'm very happy. I enjoyed working with Farhan Akhtar. The shooting was quite easy but on screen, it looks like a lot of hard work. Farhan's very diligent. I've done a negative role after a long time, I hope the audience enjoys it.
How much does its box-office outcome matter to you?
I don't attach myself to a film after its first show in the theatres. But with Don it's different. Maybe because I want to prove to myself that people have enjoyed the movie. Also, I need a solo hit to my credit now.
What about the inevitable comparisons with the first Don?
There will be comparisons but with no justification. Farhan has written the screenplay very well: the beginning and the end are absolutely original. That's one of the reasons why I said yes to the film. The middle portion is inherently a tribute to the original Don. We haven't changed much there. ….read more
