Sonia film shelved

Even after Bellucci gave her consent, impressed by Carl Austen's script, the film's Los Angeles-based director Jagmohan Mundhra has decided not to go ahead with his ambitious project. According to sources in the film industry, a disappointed Mundhra conveyed to the Congress managers his decision to shelve the film. Bellucci, who had beaten Aishwarya Rai in the race to grab the Italian-born leader's role in the film, is said to have been equally disappointed.
The film ran into trouble right from word go. Apprehensive that the film might not be an edifying one with possibilities of controversy, Congress bosses made their uneasiness about the project clear. Sonia's political aide Ahmed Patel said there was no question cooperating with the film since it would not be based on her official biography. Then, the party's in-house legal expert Abhishek Singhvi served a legal notice on both Mundhra and Kidwai asking them to give up the film project. Industry sources pointed to behind-the-scenes negotiations between the Congress managers and the film's promoters. Mundhra finally wrote back to Singhvi announcing his decision. ….read more
