Which would you say was your most challenging scene in the film?
I'd say the one where I hear that Guru has had a paralytic stroke. Since I love him like a son, I'm terribly distraught and yet I refuse to compromise by going to see him in hospital. However, eventually, the father in him rises and he succumbs to his emotions. I could empathise completely in that moment of indecision because I'm a father myself.
We hear you coaxed the usually health-conscious Aishwarya Rai to savour the Bengali delicacies you plied the film's unit with?
Some people like to share music, others books. I'm happy when I can feed people. That's my biggest high. I was after Aishwarya till she gave in. I had to instruct her how to eat Bengali food. She was soon hooked on Potoler Dorma (parval stuffed with fish). Abhishek relished everything, particularly the Bhetki Macher Paturi (fish steamed in mustard).
It's interesting that you're opting for light, commercial entertainers in Bengal and going in for nuance performances in Hindi cinema.
I've always maintained that agar herogiri karni hai, then I'm already doing that successfully in Tollywood. So when it comes to Hindi film, usme dil ko chu lenewali baat honi chahiye.
