Shilpa Shetty booted out of the second run of Miss Bollywood

8 March 2008 | Actress | No Comments

ShilpaShilpa Shetty, who created ripples after winning the reality show Big Brother and bagging the Broadway musical Miss Bollywood, has suffered a set back. If sources are to be believed, producer Farhath Hussain (who also organises Bollywood shows all over UK) is now trying to rope in Lara Dutta / Priyanka Chopra/ Bipasha Basu to get into Shilpa's shoes for the second inning.

So what's the problem? Our source informs, "The problem is not how the shows fared. They did reasonably well in most of the places, except Germany. The problem is that Shilpa demanded a lot of money. In fact her mother took charge and asked for an amount that was three times more than what was agreed upon initially. The contract was divided in three parts and she had already taken the Rs 3 crores after the first part of the contract was fulfilled. However, for the remaining part she demanded three times the amount. The total contract was over Rs 12 crores. Naturally, Hussain flared up and decided to strike her off from the upcoming season. Hussain was also upset as he is the one who has been officially promoting her after she won Big Brother. He had also organised many shows and charity events for Shilpa."

The second run of the musical slated to begin in March has been postponed to September. Our source adds, "Shilpa was unable to give dates for March, because she was committed to shoot for Vijayta Films' film Man."

An actor close to Shilpa defends her, "Shilpa has not been booted out. She is simply exhausted because the shows have been held in several parts of the globe. In fact, she herself is not interested in pursuing Miss Bollywood any further." ….read more

Ranbir and Deepika declare their love

26 February 2008 | Actors, Actress | No Comments

Deepika

RanbirRanbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have decided to go public with their relationship at last. At the 53rd Fair One Filmfare awards function, we actually caught them saying 'I love you' to each other, backstage.

The couple came together backstage and stood huddled waiting for their entry. Probably to alleviate the tension, Ranbir looked deep into Deepika's eyes and whispered, "I love you". Deepika smiled shyly and whispered right back, "I love you too". They thought no one had heard them. (They forgot that walls have ears.)

After the award function, both of them headed for Farah Ali Khan's party, where they held hands and snuggled up to each other through the night. Later they even kissed each other with abandon, making no bones about their feelings for each other. They know that we all know about their love. And they don't care. Way to go, Ranbir, Deepika. The two got close during the shoot for Siddharth Anand's film in Australia. Cupid hammered his final blow there.

Incidentally, we've heard that Deepika ended her relationship with Yuvraj Singh on the phone. ….read more

Priyanka denies getting anorexic

26 February 2008 | Movies, Actress | No Comments

PriyankaWe have all heard this one. With co-stars like Mugdha Ghodse and Kangana Ranaut it was out in the papers a few weeks back that Priyanka was asked by the director of this film 'Fashion' to reduce her weight. But the lady has quashed all rumors leading that way by coming out that, no one has asked her to slim down for her role in the film 'Fashion'. She has also said that this is one of the most insensible stories that she has heard in a long time.

This Bollywood beauty has also made it clear that she shares a good rapport with the 'Fashion 'director Madhur Bhandarkar. Priyanka is all set for Karan Johar's next that stars Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in the lead role. The actress has also reportedly told that her look for 'Fashion' was a well-toned look and she would be flaunting the same look in KJ's film too.

Priyanka has also made it clear that she is not the 'anorexic' figure type and does not support such looks. She says one does not look beautiful when they are too thin. She feels that Indian women are naturally beautiful. They are well-proportioned and 'aesthetically endowed' in all the right places, and by becoming too thin one is going against nature. ….read more

But currently Shoaib is enjoying his new found friendship with Salman Khan. He was at Salman's house for dinner last Friday, but thereafter the duo decided to test their friendship by racing from one end of Bandstand to the other and back.

An eyewitness informed that both Salman and Shoaib were stripped to the waist, baring their lean torsos late at night in Bandstand. Aishwarya’s world tour with Abhishek, Amitabh begins in July

25 February 2008 | Actors | No Comments

AishwaryaThe "unforgettable" Bachchan concert tour featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek, Aishwarya and with Jaya probably being coaxed for a friendly appearance, will begin this July.

Speaking about her first family tour, Aishwarya told IANS: "Yes, it's on in July and August. It's wonderful to be on stage with Abhishek and Pa (the Big B). I remember how wonderful it was when we did 'Kajra re' at the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) awards two years ago," she said.

"That one act featuring the three of us was a rock concert by itself. It was fantastic! Now going on stage as Amitji's daughter-in-law and Abhishek's wife would make it doubly fantastic."

The announcement puts an end to speculation regarding the financial and creative feasibility of this celebration of family bonhomie.

Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar were supposed to join the Bachchans on the tour. They opted out citing lack of time. Now the final list of actors joining the Bachchans includes Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta and Riteish Deshmukh.

Though Jaya isn't much of a dancer, the Bachchan clan loves to groove together.

"You know, we really do have a good time on stage. I've watched pa's earlier concerts, and I've seen how he rivets the audience. Even now when he chooses to go on stage once in a while, he truly has a blast. Abhishek has a party on stage. All three of us love live concerts," Aishwarya said.

"And we genuinely love music and dance. That's one thing we have in common. So we're going to have a grand party on stage. And I hope the audience enjoys it as well." ….read more

Yeh hi hai right choice Shah Rukh!

23 February 2008 | Actors | No Comments

ShahrukhBollywood's Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan always believes that you play to win.

He doesn't understand the word defeat, therefore he always believes in giving his best. Now he has ventured into a different zone — cricket, a game he has always loved.

And yes, he isn't perturbed or distracted by the cynics who are cribbing about his choice of game — cricket, over soccer and hockey.

"A lot of talks have been going around that I've entered this field because of the financial aspect. That's rubbish. It's my choice. I am as passionate about cricket as any other sport. And what's the problem if I involve myself with cricket? All sports thrill me," SRK was heard venting it out.

And why not? Life is all about the choices we make. Chak De! SRK. Cricket is certainly the flavour of the season. ….read more

MP bans Jodhaa Akbar, UTV goes to High Court

23 February 2008 | Movies | No Comments

The woes for Ashutosh Gowarikar's magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar seem to be unending. Now it's the turn of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh (MP), who have suspended the screening of the film. MP's Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the film has been suspended since they fear a law and order problem in the state.

If that wasn't enough, some theatres in Punjab and Bihar have also banned the film from being screened and a low-intensity blast was reported outside a Mumbai theatre, which was screening the film.

Meanwhile, the UTV sent out a press release stating, "We have today moved to the Madhya Pradesh (MP) High Court to lift the suspension on the screening of Jodhaa Akbar and we will take the matter to the Supreme Court if need be. The entire film industry, including producers, distributors and exhibitors are up in arms against this order of the State Government. The censor board has passed Jodhaa Akbar without any cuts and the onus is now on the respective authorities to ensure the film is screened across the country without disruption. We will fight this till the end." ….read more

Anurag Kashyap finds his heroines for ‘Dev.D’

23 February 2008 | Movies | No Comments

Anurag Kashyap, who is all set to direct his tentatively titled film Dev.D, has finally zeroed down on the actors to play the roles of Chandramukhi and Paro. Both of these roles are being played by two newcomers Kalki and Mahi, respectively.

This film which is a modern-day take on Sarat Chandra's novel, 'Devdas', is being produced by UTV Spotboy and is being written and directed by Anurag himself. Dev.D is very much unlike the original, wherein the main lead Abhay Deol is a hypocrite who drowns himself in self-pity and is a man who cannot stand up for himself.

The film is scheduled to go on floors next week, and will be shot in London, Punjab and Delhi. Anurag is said to be leaving for London in three days and the rest of the crew is supposed to join him after that. It's going to be a start-finish affair, as the film is expected to be to getting completed by April. ….read more

Shahrukh Khan’s item number in Krazzy 4

22 February 2008 | Movies, Actors | No Comments

There's no Dard, only Disco for Shah Rukh Khan! The crazy hysteria surrounding his six pack abs and Om Shanti Om have only just subdued, that the Khan has plunged into some krazzy stuff all over again. SRK will be seen in an 'item number'in Rakesh Roshan's Krazzy 4 .

"Hrithik was to do the song, but due to his knee injury, we were in a dilemma of sorts. I approached Shah Rukh and he very kindly agreed to bail us out," explains Rakesh. "The song required energy, and that's what Shah Rukh has in abundance."

Dancing to the tunes of Rajesh Roshan on an English song titled Break Free , rendered by Vishal, Shah Rukh it seems is set to impress as usual. Director Jaideep Sen tells us, "Shah Rukh plays a superstar performing at an award function. The situation required a larger than life stage and a larger than life personality. Shah Rukh has taken it to another level altogether."

Gloves, ponytail et al…Talk about the Michael Jackson look, courtesy fashion designer Anahita Shroff, and Sen informs that it wasn't intended. Choreographer Ahmed Khan elucidates that it's SRK's new found lean body and long hair that gives an MJ-hint, and also made him treat this number a little differently.

So is SRK India's MJ? While Ahmed believes, "Michael Jackson is a performer, Shah Rukh an entertainer," producer Rakesh Roshan says, "I'd think so! Especially after seeing this song! Shah Rukh came and told me 'I've given my best shot, but I think Hrithik will do more justice to it.' I disagree, Shah Rukh has done utmost justice!" ….read more

Krazzy competition

22 February 2008 | Movies | No Comments

Rakesh Roshan may not be too happy to release his next production Krazzy 4, featuring Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, Rajpal Yadav, Suresh Menon, Dia Mirza and Juhi Chawla on April 11. The film is pitted against Ajay Devgan's directorial debut U, Me Aur Hum, which releases on the same day, and understandably Roshan Sr fears stiff competition.

Roshan Sr has already made customary calls to Ajay Devgan requesting him to delay his film by a week or so. However, Devgan wasn't in a mood to budge and decided against making any changes to the release date. A source close to the actor-turned-director informs, "Yes, Rakesh Roshan had requested Ajay to delay the release of his film by a few weeks. However, Ajay didn't want to compromise and clearly told the filmmaker that he wasn't in a position to make any changes."

Apparently, Devgan had already made marketing and distribution strategies ahead of the release of the film and any changes in the release date would have led to other problems, indicate sources. The story goes that there is immense expectation from U, Me Aur Hum as Devgan and wife Kajol are coming together in a film after almost eight years. An industry insider says, "Ajay and Kajol were last seen in Raju Chacha, which released in 2000. Obviously, most of their fans are eagerly waiting for this film. Krazzy 4 has to face competition in the coming days." By refusing Roshan to delay, it would be fair to say that Devgan ne Krazzy kiya re! ….read more
