Shantanu Mukherjee's singing career began quite early. As a child artiste he used to sing jingles. He went on to cut his private album and later made a successful foray into playback singing. But if you haven't heard of Mukherjee, it's understandable. Shantanu is making waves in the music industry as the lovable Shaan!

Though Shaan started singing early on his career, he says he never really wanted to be a singer! "It feels really great to be where I am, but frankly speaking, I never wanted to be a singer. In fact, if I was not a singer, I would be a teacher," he says adding, "But after the sad demise of my father, Manas Muhkerjee – a renowned lyricist and music director, I decided to fulfil his dreams and turn singer." However Shaan credits his guru Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan equally for his success. "Ustad ji has really helped me to groom my vocal skills. It is because of his guidance and training that I am getting so much love from my audiences," informs Shaan who not only loves singing but also writing his own songs. Songs like Tanha dil and Bhool ja reflect Shaan's creativity on paper. "I love to write my own songs. Though I am not a shayar but yes, I like to pen down my emotions and feelings ," says Shaan. …

But Shaan has not just left listeners spellbound with his melodious songs but also tried his luck on silver screen when he acted in Kalpana Lajmi's Daman. However, it was totally unplanned, he claims. "It just happened. There were no plans to act till Kalpanaji (Lajmi) said that she was working on a film and my personality perfectly suited one of the characters in the movie. I initially thought she was just joking, but when I received a call from Kalpana, it became serious. That's how I got to do Daman," shares Shaan. So why has he not been seen on screen after that? "After seeing the movie my wife Radhika asked me to drop the idea of acting and just stick to singing. And now I feel that her decision was quite right," says Shaan. And while talking about his wife, he gushes, "Radhika has always motivated me. She is my source of inspiration." ….read more
